This is not really a future question anymore. Deloitte has already raised t=
he concern that automation can improve efficiency while weakening the pipel=
ine through which early-career workers develop on the job. We are starting =
to see that tension more clearly now. Because the real question is not just=
 whether AI can do more junior work. It is what happens when companies remo=
ve too much of the layer where people used to build judgment, context, and =
experience. Junior roles were never just about output, that often only beco=
mes clear after too much of it is gone. They were also one of the main ways=
 companies built future capability. A large share of junior work is exactly=
 the kind of work AI is getting better at. That is what makes this question=
 more urgent. If companies stop hiring juniors, they are not just cutting c=
ost. They may also be thinning out the layer where future seniors learn how=
 to think, judge, and operate in real business environments. Not all junior=
 work should be preserved, but some experience has to be If AI removes too =
much of the first-pass layer, and companies do not redesign how people gain=
 these experiences, they may end up with a workforce that is faster at prod=
ucing outputs, but weaker at developing judgment. That experience includes =
things like: seeing enough real cases to build pattern recognition understa=
nding where standard process breaks learning how stakeholder priorities cha=
nge decisions developing a feel for quality in context working through ambi=
guity instead of only clean tasks seeing why something that looked =E2=80=
=9Cfine=E2=80=9D still failed in practice The goal is not to protect low-va=
lue busywork. It is to protect the kinds of exposure that actually turn exe=
cution into judgment. Because once those experiences disappear, companies d=
o not just lose a layer of labor. They risk weakening the path through whic=
h future seniors are formed. Companies are still hiring juniors =E2=80=94 b=
ut for a different shape of value The junior market has become thinner, mor=
e selective, and less willing to pay for purely first-pass execution. That =
is why the market can look confusing right now. On one side, entry-level ro=
les have been under real pressure. The World Economic Forum recently pointe=
d to a 35% drop in US entry-level postings over the last 18 months, with AI=
 playing a meaningful role in compressing routine, task-heavy work. On the =
other side, junior hiring is not disappearing. It is being rewritten. What =
is getting weaker The parts of junior work under the most pressure are usua=
lly the ones that are: repeatable process-heavy low-context first-pass easy=
 to benchmark for correctness That includes a lot of drafting, documentatio=
n, standard research, routine support work, first-pass coding, and basic an=
alysis setup. If a junior role was mostly built around taking instructions,=
 processing information, and producing a standard output, that version of t=
he role is more exposed now. The WEF describes this as AI taking over more =

already show early signs of judgment. That is also consistent with broader =
labor data. PwC found that skills in AI-exposed jobs are changing 66% faste=
r than in other roles, and workers with AI-related skills are seeing a 56% =
wage premium. What that means in practice The junior market now values a mi=
x of: AI literacy learning speed critical thinking review and refinement ab=
ility communication business context awareness In other words, the market i=
s not simply raising the AI bar. It is also raising the judgment bar. A bet=
ter way to describe this shift is not: =E2=80=9CCompanies want juniors who =
can use AI.=E2=80=9D It is: Companies want fewer juniors whose value is onl=
y execution, and more juniors who can use AI while already operating one la=
yer above raw task completion. The risk for seniors is not just AI replacem=
ent, it is outdated seniority A lot of senior value used to come partly fro=
m being faster at synthesis, review, analysis, planning, and structuring wo=
rk. But once first-pass output becomes cheaper, that advantage gets weaker =
on its own. That does not make senior people less important. It raises the =
bar on what seniority has to mean. The question becomes: Who can frame the =
problem well, spot weak logic, make tradeoffs under ambiguity, and connect =
output to real business reality? If someone=E2=80=99s value mostly came fro=
m being better at the old workflow, that value is more exposed now. Senior =
value now needs to come more from things like: defining standards making tr=
adeoffs reading messy situations well improving decision quality leading th=
